ArteFill®
Artefill® is a revolutionary wrinkle filler for the correction of moderate to deep lines and folds around the mouth, as well as other areas of the face. It is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable filler. This means that ArteFill® will work with your skin to correct your wrinkles for years after you receive your treatments. ArteFill® utilizes the same materials used in many surgical implants. Each dose of ArteFill® includes a tiny amount of this surgical implant product, called PMMA, shaped in the form of microscopic spheres. The micro-spheres are suspended in a purified bovine collagen which is similar to that which has been approved by the FDA and in use in the U.S. for many years.
ArteFill® was approved by the FDA in 2006. Do not confuse ArteFill® with Artecoll, which has been in use internationally for several years for wrinkle correction. Artecoll has gone through several improvements over the years, but Artecoll was not able to meet strict FDA guidelines. Unlike ArteFill®, Artecoll is not approved for use in the U.S. ArteFill® was developed using the same basic technology as Artecoll, yet with several refinements required by the FDA for approval. These changes include a process that made all the spheres more uniform in size, eliminating any static charge among particles, which occasionally causes lumping in the Artecoll product. Lumping is extremely rare with ArteFill® and an experienced injector. ArteFill® requires skin testing prior to treatment only to determine if you are allergic to the collagen suspension. ArteFill® costs a little over twice the cost of other dermal fillers, but many patients find it the most cost effective solution because it lasts at least 5 times as long as other dermal fillers, with some enduring benefit for a lifetime.
Joan M. Hardt, M.D. is among the leading injectors of ArteFill® in the United States. At Rejuvena, we do not charge for consultations. To schedule your free consultation, please email or call us at (405)842-1100. Questions and Answers
