Nasolabial Fold Correction
Nasolabial folds are creases on the sides of the nose that extend to the corners of the mouth, and sometimes curve around slightly under the lip creating a parentheses look. They can be relatively fine (a fine wrinkle) to a deep fold, even to the point that the skin above seems to hang over it. Many individuals begin to see this sign of aging in their 40's - although younger people with prominent cheeks may also have nasolabial folds. Nasolabial folds often deepen with time, marking a face as a tired, older face.
The good news is there are now several dermal fillers that have been FDA approved to treat this common condition, non-surgically. Restylane (made by Medicis) and Juvéderm (made by Allergan) are temporary dermal fillers A longer lasting dermal filler, Radiesse, was also approved for use in the U.S. by the FDA in 2006; however, it too has been in use internationally for several years in hundreds of thousands of procedures. Radiesse is made of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a natural gel. Radiesse lasts between 9 and 18 months. Restylane, Juvéderm and Radiesse require no testing before treatment.
