Perlane®
Perlane is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler that is used to soften wrinkles and facial folds. It is also used to fill depressions such as the area beneath the eyes. It has been used for years in patients over the world and has recently gained approval by the FDA for use in the U.S. It is from the same company that provides the well established and widely used Restylane. Perlane is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid gel. Since it is a natural substance found in the skin and other tissue, there is no need for a skin test when using Perlane filler. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane supplements the body’s natural supply that becomes depleted with age. It is biodegradable by the body. Results typically lasting six months to a year. Indications for Perlane include deep wrinkle filling, facial contouring, reducing nasolabial folds, chin and cheek augmentation, acne scar softening, filling hollows under the eyes (tear troughs), and softening the appearance of jowls, as well as lip enhancement. Perlane and Restylane are primarily the same product, but Perlane contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid, making it more appropriate for larger folds, etc. Restylane is better suited for smaller wrinkles or to layer on top of Perlane for longer lasting and more natural results.
