Rejuvena Skin and Wellness Medical Center Serving Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond & Nearby Areas of Oklahoma
There are many different reasons why you may want to remove a tattoo. It could be a reminder of a past relationship or painful memory, an embarrassing design, a mark that no longer represents you, or poorly executed and distorted work.
While traditional tattoo removal has limitations, advanced laser tattoo removal technology offers a way to eliminate unwanted ink without surgery or scarring.
At Rejuvena Cosmetic Medical Center, Joan Hardt, M.D. offers her patients nothing short of the most advanced devices on the market. For this reason, she chooses to perform laser tattoo removal with PicoWay®. This next-generation technology often requires fewer treatments and fades stubborn colors more effectively than traditional devices.
You shouldn’t have to live with an unwanted tattoo. Schedule a consultation at 405-842-1100 to learn if PicoWay laser tattoo removal is right for you. Our leading medical spa serves patients throughout the Oklahoma City area, including Norman and Edmond, and across the state.
What Is Picoway And How Does It Work?
Created by Cynosure, a leading developer of light-based aesthetic and medical treatments, the PicoWay device is the world’s first picosecond laser. This short-pulse laser works with your body to facilitate the natural elimination of unwanted pigment.
During a treatment, proprietary PressureWaveTM technology delivers ultra-short pulses of energy. The laser flashes quickly in trillionths of a second. These rapid pulses work by causing a change in pressure that breaks the tattoo ink into tiny particles. The laser wavelength is specifically attracted to the pigment in the tattoo and bypasses the pigment in your skin.
Over time, the microscopic particles of pigment are absorbed by your lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels in the body that help eliminate unwanted materials such as toxins and waste. The tattoo pigment naturally leaves the body through this system.
Is Picoway Laser Tattoo Removal Right For Me?
PicoWay is able to treat all colors of tattoo ink on all skin types. This means that you are likely a candidate for PicoWay laser tattoo removal. Dr. Hardt can perform the treatment almost anywhere on the body, including the lower back, neck, face, and hands.
You may benefit from PicoWay if you have:
- Single color or multicolor tattoos
- Any color pigment including green and blue
- Hard to remove, previously treated tattoos
For more information about candidacy, schedule a consultation with Dr. Hardt. She will examine the location and nature of your tattoo to determine if PicoWay is appropriate for your unique situation.
What To Expect From Your Treatment Session
During treatment, many patients experience a sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band, as well as heat in the treated area. Dr. Hardt takes all measures possible to make removal of your tattoo more comfortable. This may include applying a numbing cream, if appropriate.
PicoWay uses incredibly fast pulses of energy combined with special wavelengths to minimize heat during treatment. These elements lower the risk of skin damage and make the treatment more tolerable. Scarring of any kind (hypertrophic, or raised and hyper- or hypo-pigmentation) is the rare exception rather than the rule.
Describe® Patch For Laser Tattoo Removal
At Rejuvena, we also offer the DESCRIBE® Patch for an additional fee to any laser tattoo removal treatment. The DESCRIBE® PFD Patch is a clear, one-time use optical clearing device accessory that allows you to receive several laser treatments within one session. Studies show that tattoos can be removed more quickly with the Patch since more laser passes are possible, meaning you may need to schedule fewer laser tattoo removal sessions with your doctor.
Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare And Results
After treatment, the area will be very red and eventually will form an eschar (scab). Our staff will apply an ointment to the area and cover it with a bandage. You will be instructed to apply an ointment called bacitracin (purchased at a retailer such as Wal Mart or Walgreens, or in our medical center) until it is completely healed.
Your tattoo will fade more with each treatment. The number of treatments can vary widely depending upon the color and types of ink used in the tattoo, the depth of the inks, and your personal goals. We have removed amateur (“homemade” or “stick and poke”) tattoos with a single treatment.
Typically you will need at least six treatments to remove most of the tattoo. Deeply placed tattoos may require many more treatments for complete removal. Black (which sometimes appear as dark green or dark blue) and red inks are the most easily removed. Dr. Hardt or a member of her experienced staff will discuss the number of treatments for your particular condition and goals at your consultation.
How Much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost?
Pricing begins at $150 per treatment, and the average cost per treatment is $250. Package prices are available and decrease the cost per treatment.
Dr. Hardt believes that cost shouldn’t be a barrier between patients and cosmetic services. Our flexible financing plans can help you afford tattoo removal on any budget.
